LEW840X is a series of low cost, open source, secure industrial IoT gateway supporting basic edge computing. It interfaces with LTE, WIFi, Ethernet networks and provides the longest ranges for Bluetooth 5.2, Thread, Zigbee, and LoRa interfaces. Gateway is IP67, IP65, or IP51 rated for deployment indoor or in the harshest outdoor environment.
OpenSource but WaterProof
Demonstration quality source codes are available for BLE, LTE, and WiFi modules for connecting sensors to a cloud server.
Source codes for Android OS apps are available.
The yellow color enclosure is rated IP65. It can be upgraded to IP67 upon successful testing with a RJ45 cable adapter. This market ready enclosure operates from -40C to +105C (electronics to +85C). It is ready to operate in the harshest outdoor environment with moisture, dust, wind, rain, snow and extreme heat upon completion of firmware development.
Target design specifications of the black color enclosure is IP51. It provides limited protection against dust ingress and vertical water drops. This cost gateway can be used indoor or outdoor under roof.
Multiple Networks, Radios, Super Transmission Power
LEW840X Series Gateway relays messages from a Bluetooth, LoRa, Thread, or Zigbee device to a cloud server through LTE, WiFi or PoE Ethernet network. It is available from low cost EW840F5P to super transmission power LEWRX840XE6P for maximum range.
It supports multiple radio protocols
Bluetooth 5.2, IEEE 802.15.4, ANT+: BT840F, BT840E, BT840X, BT840XE (max TX. at +20.99 dBm) Nordic nRF52840 modules. Or, BT40F, BT40E nRF5340 modules.
LoRa: LR62E, Semtech SX1262 module; LR62XE with PA (max TX at +29.22 dBm).
Basic Edge Computing IoT Gateways with Zethyr RTOS
Nordic nRF5340 has a dual core Cortex M33 processor. The application core with 16 MB external flash memory running Zethyr RTOS can process and store data locally. Benefits:
Higher reliability, as data doesn’t need to travel to a cloud, avoiding network interruption.
Lower latency and consumption of network resources.
Better security and compliance with regulation as data isn’t exposed when traveling over public links

Using WiFi to Connect to a Cloud Server
An ESP32 WiFi module is used to establish and maintain internet connection through a WiFi router. Source codes for use with Mongoose OS are available for developing interface with cloud server. A Development Kit (DK) is required to load program into WiFi module. The USB cable assembly included in DK-BWG840F can be used to load program into WiFi module of production gateway BWG840F.
Development Server
A set of demonstration codes for a BLE 5 sensor sending temperature and humidity data to a BWG840F connected to a Fanstel development server using MQTT protocols can be downloaded from Download OpenSource Document webpage.
The purpose of development server is to assist developers in early stage of development to trouble-shoot WiFi connection. To avoid overloading, gateways should be connected to a production server as soon as possible.
An Android phone app displaying temperature and humidity as below can be downloaded from the same webpage.
